the truth about the hello hero collection?

it was an accident.

We have a confession to make.

The power PJ’s were an accident. Actually, the entire Hello Hero collection was an accident. Here’s how it happened.
When we set out to create Hart & Hero, pajamas were the last thing on our minds. All we wanted to do was bridge the gender play gap. Boys make up 50% of a family unit, but 98% of doll strollers are pink. And why was everything space-oriented in the boys aisle? We wanted to change that, and so we founded Hart & Hero. Our first piece was going to be a doll stroller. One that was intentionally designed to include boys in the family-oriented play space.
And so for step one: Research. Everything on the market was pink. Was the color the only thing holding parents back from buying one for their boys? Or was there something more? We started our investigation. We were shameless, starting conversations with moms and dads anywhere. There was one recurring theme we kept hearing:
"Soft".
To combat the "pushing a doll stroller is soft and soft weak" narrative, we decided to add a superhero element to the design. We wanted to rewrite the narrative: Caring is Powerful! And so we added a cape, superhero pajamas, and a superhero doll to the collection. Yep, they were just supposed to be the supporting cast to the Herotron.
The Herotron took 2.5 years to develop. During those years, we were simultaneously designing the PJs, cape , and Hartie. There were many rounds of prototypes until we were satisfied with the quality. But while we were focusing on the Herotron, our kids were discovering the Power PJs. And something unexpected happened. When they put on their PJs and cape, children transformed. Their confidence increased as they looked in the mirror and saw themselves for the powerful beings that they are. They discovered their powers of Brave, of Kind. Hartie and the cape became tactile and visual reminders of their Hero within, their power to do hard things.
We connected with therapists. Educators. And developed an immersive collection designed to empower children to be their best self.
